Marriage

We thank God that many Catholics choose to marry in a Catholic church. Here at SS Joseph & Swithun’s, you will be given sound advice and excellent support as you plan for your wedding. The cost element of marrying at SS Joseph & Swithun’s is minimal.

If you are a parishioner and wish to make your wedding vows in the presence of a Catholic priest in our parish – at St Joseph’s Church or St Swithun’s Church – or elsewhere, a minimum of six month’s notice is essential.

Marriage preparation course

Catholics and their fiancée are required to participate inWedding a course of pre-marriage preparation for their wedding. Initial contact should be made by appointment with one of the priests or deacons. They will be happy to brief you about documents required, the Marriage Preparation Course and answer any questions you may have about getting married at SS Joseph & Swithun’s.

The Marriage Preparation Team consists of married couples who offer those planning to marry the opportunity to talk together in an informal atmosphere.

Using their own experience of married life, the team aims to help couples preparing for marriage to cope with problems and pitfalls through better communication. These very informal discussions take place during the six-month notice period required for marriages.
