church TO RE-OPEN: SATURDAY 4 JULY

Dear Parishioners & Friends of SS Joseph & Swithun

Following the opening of the church for private prayer, it is with great joy that I am able to announce that our churches will be open for Mass with a congregation from Saturday 4th July. There will be various restrictions that have been announced that will reduce the seating capacity of the church. Additionally, we will require the names and contact details of all attendees to comply with the government “test and trace” regulations.

The Bishops of England and Wales are continuing to lift the obligation to attend Mass on a Sunday, so if you can attend a mid-week Mass, please do so to relieve the pressure on the Sunday Masses. We will continue to make Masses available online for those who are self-isolating and cannot leave their home.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank those who are contributing to the parish finances. Many of you are suffering financially during these past few months and yet have kept contributing. Our finances are under great stress because our offertory collections have dramatically fallen (because we are not having attended Masses) and hall lettings have stopped, while the costs of running the parish have remained more or less as they were.

May God bless you and keep you safe!

Fr. Peter Murphy
